Five uncapped players who should be in the next Springboks squad

Games against Scotland and Georgia will be the perfect opportunity for the World Champion Springboks to give several new names a runout ahead of the 2020 Rugby Championship later this year.

Due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the globe it is uncertain if players will have much time to make a case for national team selection over the next few months, barring the pandemic subsides at all.

We at Betway have identified five uncapped South African-based players who should be high on head coach Jacques Nienaber's list come June - as things currently stand:

Aphelele Fassi (Sharks)

The most exciting talent to emerge from the Super Rugby season thus far, Fassi has been outstanding for a resurgent Sharks team who currently sit atop the standings.

Fassi is the obvious choice to take over the Springboks 15 jumper from Willie le Roux. Not only is he reliable under the high ball, but with an improving kicking game and pace to burn he is devastating on attack.

The 22-year-old has clocked up the second most running meters and tackle busts in Super Rugby this season while he has also scored three tries.

James Venter (Sharks)

The Springboks have always been blessed with superb loose forward and with Francois Louw having called time on his career, there is space for someone to fill that void.

At 23 years of age, Venter has emerged as a surprise candidate this season. The Sharks fetcher is not only competitive at the breakdown, but outstanding with ball in hand.

He has also made the most tackles of any blindside flank (66) in this season's competition and is yet to miss one.

Juanro Augustus (Stormers)

South African fans got a real glimpse of Augustus' talent in his man-of-the-match performance against the Sharks last weekend.

The Stormers eighth-man is devastating from the base of the scrum, imposing at the breakdown and will be pushing Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Marcel Coetzee and Duane Vermeulen for that Springboks jumper at this rate.

Joseph Dweba (Cheetahs)

The 24-year-old Cheetahs hooker is an exciting prospect and has been among the shining lights for South Africa's two teams in the Pro 14 this season.

With Springboks stater Bongi Mbonambi out injured and Schalk Brits having called time on his career, the door has opened for two hookers to stake a claim to join Malcolm Marx in the Springboks squad and Dweba is the leading candidate.

Tyrone Green (Lions)

While the Lions have struggled in Super Rugby this season, Green has emerged as a real prospect. The Lions flyer is amongst the leaders in both running meters and tackle busts and looks a nailed on Springbok.

South Africa are blessed on the wings and Green will still need to improve if he is to unsettle any of the current options out wide, but if his form remains he could just force himself into the squad.
