Betway-sponsored Mike de Kock will saddle six runners for the meeting at the
Vaal on Thursday, 6 January, and two runners at Meydan in Dubai, on Friday.
Here are De Kock’s runner reports:
VAAL
Race 1:
“We’re coming back in distance with
Abayyaan, recommended by his jockeys. He’s a limited horse, but this is not a strong field and he should be competitive. He has a Maiden win in him. Eachway chance.”
Race 4:
“Two runners here, both
Maria’s World and
Crown Plaza working well, and let me point out Crown Plaza is the stronger of the two in work. She’s had interrupted preparations in her previous runs, but comes into this race fit for the first time and has a good draw. Not a lot between them, on their work Crown Plaza is just a little better.”
Race 5:
“
Jaipur Jewel is in the right place here. His handicapping debut over 2000m was a fair run, he should be a factor today in Maiden class and warrants inclusion in the exotics.”
Race 6:
“
Battleoftrafalgar’s rating has been coming down steadily and he’s been running like he needs a bit more ground, gets 1400m today and I think he has a chance, don’t leave him out of your Pick 6 and Quartets.
Power Ranger possibly needs gelding, I am disappointed he hasn’t won since his Maiden but that said he hasn’t been ridden correctly. I’d like to see him come from off the pace and finish the race off. I’m hoping we can do that today. He is better than rated, better than his form, you must bring him into play, he’s in with a chance here!”
MEYDAN
Race 5:
“
Magical Land (Frankel) is a four-year-old we acquired from Godolphin at a good price, he’s racing here in a Handicap over 1400m on turf. We’ve had to nurse him through a few problems, he’ll need this run to bring him on, but he’s a nice horse, I think one that can be followed. He has impressed in his work.”
Race 9:
“
Celtic Voyager, a former South African racer, had one run in France which was a little disappointing. The SA horses’ ratings abroad worry me, their ratings were pumped up by 10 pounds and more and I’m not convinced they are correctly rated. That said, he is a nice horse, working well and will improve with the run. We’ll we how he goes in this 1000m sprint on turf.”
